Hello! We’re back for another monthly design roundup, this will be the second to last email sent out this year. Much to reflect on…
DESIGN
This month I once again had the pleasure of working with The Fillmore in San Francisco on a poster, this time for Del Water Gap. Inspired by cross stitch patterns and Lite Brites, here is the poster we ended up with for the show. A limited number of 13x19 prints were made for the show, and I’ve already received some emails asking if I’m selling prints but sadly I am not!
I guess this could be in the music section, but New Commute asked me to make a Top 5 albums of 2023 graphic to share in their artist roundup, and here are my picks! These albums have been in my on rotation playlist all year, and I highlyyyyy recommend checking them out if you’re not familiar.
MOVIES
I think I got film fatigue after watching 50+ movies last month so there’s nothing special to share here besides a bunch of rewatches, but here are a few first watches!
Memories Of Murder ☆☆☆☆☆
If you’re a fan of David Fincher, specifically Zodiac, the movie Prisoners by Denis Villeneuve, noir thrillers, detective movies…. do not skip this one. Already knew I could trust Bong Joon-ho since seeing Parasite but this proves he’s a master at storytelling and suspense. Now I have to see Barking Dogs Never Bite.
Saltburn ☆☆☆☆
Okay this is the controversial movie NOBODY liked but me apparently… I didn’t like her other movie AT ALL but I had so much fun watching this one and thought it looked breathtakingly gorgeous. Every shot looks like a painting. It’s definitely not for everyone (it is weird), but I had fun!! Sue me!
Annihilation ☆☆☆☆☆
I usually save rewatches for a list, but I have to sit here and write about Alex Garland’s masterpiece book-to-movie adaptation of Annihilation. I’ve seen this movie three? four? times now and every time I watch it feels like the first time. It’s visceral cosmic horror that gets under your skin and never leaves, with the most chilling sound design/score I’ve ever heard (masterfully done by Geoff Barrow of Portishead). It’s technically a sci-fi movie, but somehow Annihilation manages to be one of the scariest movies I’ve ever seen. If you haven’t seen it yet and love uncanny humanlike creatures, aliens, and Oscar Isaac, you should check it out. The last 20 minutes alone is a completely unexpected and jaw dropping climax to a beautifully horrific movie. It’s earned it’s place in my top 5 movies of all time. Desperately need them to bring this back to IMAX

That’s all for now! See you next month
I forgot a Snoopy gif last month, extremely tragic
